Focus: Brexit - Untying the Knot
On 23 June 2016 British voters went to the polls in a referendum on whether to leave or remain within the European Union. The result is history: by a margin of 3.78%, the UK electorate voted to leave.
It ranks as one of the most crucial events in modern British history. It put into reverse a process of integration into Europe that had gone on for over four decades and it set the country on a course into unknown political and economic territory.
